- Besoaín Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon – Youthful, playful Sauvignon from the Maipo Valley The grapes for the Besoaín Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon come from 18-year-old vines. They stand on a unique terrace on the banks of the Maipo River in the Los Morros area. The soil in the region consists of a geological formation of colluvial and alluvial sediments. The harvest at the end of March, beginning of April 2021 was 100% manual. After the harvest, the grapes were selected by hand in the vineyard and then in the wine cellar. Before fermentation, the grapes were cold macerated for 5 days to extract color and tannin. Alcoholic fermentation took place in small stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation then took place in French barriques. The wine then matured for 12-16 months in used barrique barrels (second passage). The aim was to preserve the seductive fruit and not overwhelm the wine with too much wood. The Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon was finally bottled in February 2023. The region’s climate is semi-arid-Mediterranean with an increase in rainfall the further south you go. The intense sunshine and the influence of the winds that flow into the Maipo Valley from the Andes favor viticulture. As does the natural cooling at night, which ventilates the vines and ensures optimal ripening of the grapes. Added to this is the altitude effect, which is immediately noticeable in the animating freshness of the wines. The stony, barren soils also promote a particularly aromatic expression of the wines and a remarkable balance in the mouth. In addition, the aforementioned conditions of this privileged location make the use of pesticides unnecessary and allow for very sustainable cultivation. And this is what the Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from Besoaín Wines tastes like The Besoaín Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon seduces with an irresistible aroma of ripe blackberries, cassis and plums, underpinned by the warm, spicy aromas of barrel ageing: chocolate, cedar wood and a little vanilla. Hints of spices. On the palate, this Chilean red wine is lush, full-bodied and very juicy. Plum and chocolate notes continue animatingly, underpinned by a subtle truffle note. The tannins are silky, the acidity well integrated. A great, noble Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile, very balanced, with a long finish and good ageing potential.
