2018 Te Mata Coleraine
$ 83.25
- New Zealand’s most revered red wine The name Coleraine is derived from the Coleraine vineyard, home of John and Wendy Buck of Te Mata Estate. John’s late grandfather was born in Coleraine in Northern Ireland and the name has survived from the family seat to this great New Zealand wine. Originally a single-vineyard wine, Coleraine has been an assemblage of the finest wines since 1989, coming from various plots of Te Mata Estate’s oldest vineyards in the Havelock Hills. Each grape plot was destemmed before a traditional mash fermentation with prolonged maceration took place on the skins. The resulting wines were then aged for 17 months in predominantly new French oak barriques. During this time, they were regularly replenished and refilled. The final blend consists of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. And this is how the Coleraine from Te Mata tastes The top wine from the Hawke’s Bay region. The Te Mata Coleraine seduces with an intense, multi-layered scent of cassis, black cherry, raspberry leaves and smoky-roasted notes, chocolate, espresso and cedar wood. On the palate, this red wine offers a great depth and complexity, red fruits continue wonderfully, accompanied by mocha, a firm, delicate acidity and smooth tannins give the wine structure. An excellent wine, with finesse, exceptional length and a great development potential of at least 12 years.
