Bergamot is a close relative of the Bitter Orange tree, and produces a small fruit that turns from green to yellow in colour when ripe. Unlike other citruses the fruit is inedible as it is so sour! Bergamot essential oil is renowned for its refreshing and uplifting qualities. Bergamot is used extensively as a fragrance and is a key ingredient in the classic Eau de Cologne. It is also used for flavouring Earl Grey Tea.
