Exhaust Gas Recirculation otherwise called EGR is the method that controls Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) emissions. The Exhaust Gas Recirculation systems job is to pass back small portions of exhaust gas back to the engines combustion chambers via the intake manifold. This then lowers combustion temperatures and reduces the level of Nitrogen Oxides emitted. The EGR valve’s job is to control the flow of exhaust gas recirculated.
